What can I say? A great experience for all I think. Some of us started early with a picnic and walk in Rufford country park. We then met up at Sherwood Pines which was absolutely packed. It seems everyone had come here to celebrate the end of the world which of course happened sometime without anyone noticing. Good to see some young people amongst us even though they did put seem to find it so much easier than we of more senior citizens.
After a brief induction we were on out way. The first bit was a mild introduction and everybody seemed to land feet down the zip wire. Moving on our first real challenge was the stirrups although some cheated by dragging themselves along the wire. Then the first zip wire where I ended up backwards but didn't plough my bum through the wood chips.
The next bit seemed OK although the zip wires got higher and bum tracks were evident.
The big hold up came at the second cargo net. Stepping off into the abyss and zooming towards the net was quite a heart in mouth experience. Then the scramble up to make the platform. This was followed by the long zip wire which really made the trees zoom past. Everyone was thinking how they were going to land feet first only for the thing to turn as you reached the bottom followed by dragging your feet in the wood chips hoping you were going to stop. After brushing the woodchips from off your bum and out your eyes proceeding to the next obstacles seemed a bit of an anticlimax although by now everyone was feeling the effort of the day.
Finally we finished and made our way to the Robin Hood for a pleasant conversation and good ale. Thanks everyone for a memorable day.
