There are very few days when the weather is perfect for walking and the walk perfect for the weather but this was one. I was going to say that the sun wasn't too strong as well but my reddening face and arms would contradict this. Never been sun burnt in April in England before.
Those who were walking today will tell you this was a not to be missed experience. As Shakespeare says in Henry V, "and men in England now abed will feel themselves accursed they were not there."
Starting off we looked at the winding engine for the high peak railway which pulled trucks up the 1 in 8 slope. Fortunately we did not have to do the same. A walk along the trail through the tunnel and up the Hopton incline was a pleasant start and enabled us to warm up.
Leaving the trail we walked on soft grassy paths until we reached the brow of the hill to have a magnificent vista of Carsington water. A break for drinks and photos was called for. We then descended to Carsington the exit of which appeared to be through someones garden but this was an illusion.
The path to Brassington was also pleasantly grassy and we stopped for lunch overlooking the village. Noticing the pub we decided a stop here would be in order. The Miners in Brassington is a walker friendly pub, reasonably priced and well worth another visit.
After our refreshment we set off up the only real hill on the walk but the steepness soon relented. Being true trekkers we than took a dtour to the top of Rainster rocks just to add a bit of extra ascent. The ascent was on the lee side of the hill and we all soon perspiring but soon reached the summit.
From here we set off back to the High Peak trail at Longcliffe and had a pleasant stroll back. Refreshments were at the Rising Sun Middleton where the service was almost as bad as the Foxhouse. Also some idiot decided to bump Emilio's car and drive off. Stupid really as we took the number and there were a number of witnesses. A phone call to the police and someone is now facing a prosecution when all that was required was swapping of insurance details. The one black spot of the day but I suppose it took Emilios mind off electrocting himself again.
All in all a perfect days walking. Right walk, right distance, just a shame about the pub and the car.
